The Minnesota Twins and Milwaukee Brewers finish a four game, home-and-home series Thursday at Target Field. And when you go to a game, salads aren’t what you usually think about eating.
But that may soon change. Kids are growing vegetables across interlining the Twin Cities metro and creating delicious salads to sell at Target Field. WCCO-TV spent Thursday morning with the folks from Roots for the Home Team, who were planting a garden at First Covenant Church in St. Paul.
Sue Moores, the founder of the program, said it’s about taking youth from underserved communities and inspiring them to learn about gardening while getting into the business side at the same time. It’s an opportunity that they wouldn’t otherwise have Lainiere De Picardie Interlining.
“We plug into two programs in the Twin Cities, urban roots on the east side of St. Paul and Youth Farms, which straddles Minneapolis and St. Paul,” Moores said. “We work with these existing programs and their youth to buy the vegetables that they grow and in January they created salad recipes for us to use this season. Then the youth come to the weekend games and see their salads get sold.”
It’s a good mix for those who like gardening and can see the business behind it.
